The school moved into its new building in January 1898 at which time there were about seventy pupils. The original building sufficed for a number of years but due to the influx of additional pupils as well as the accommodation of children from elementary schools in the town for instruction in practical subjects, such as woodwork and domestic science, the school became overcrowded. Consequently, in 1909 the County Governing Body agreed in principle that a second building should be erected alongside the first. This was the 'Science, Arts and Crafts' building (the Edwardian Block) which was opened in 1912 and became known as the 'New School'. The new school consisted of a Woodwork shop, Domestic Science rooms, Physics and Chemistry laboratories, two extra classrooms and a large lecture room. The school was awarded 'The Schools Curriculum Award', 'the Queen Mothers Birthday Award' and 'the Welsh Secondary Schools Association Award'. It is a caring, vibrant, stimulating school where every child is known valued and achieves highly.
